This Deluxe Camper Van Has a No-Compromise, Family-Friendly Design With a Pop-Top Tent - autoevolution

Family van life is an actual thing – and with the right setup, it doesn't have to be an uncomfortable setup. The "right setup" can take various forms; here's one of them.

Living as a family can sometimes be uncomfortable, even in a conventional home. So, you'd think that

doing it in a home on wheels

makes no sense. Some families with an adventurous spirit enjoy hitting the road – most of them do it part-time, like going on vacations, but some even do it full-time.

The camper van's design will make or break the experience. What we have here is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a 170" wheelbase. It was built by Brooklyn Campervans, a Brooklyn-based company specializing in crafting high-quality mobile homes. It has more than 60 projects in its portfolio, some of which we've covered here on autoevolution.

As always, I'll start the tour with the exterior. This van sports several upgrades. On the roof, you'll find an A/C unit, eight light pods at the front, a Fiamma F45S awning, a StarLink antenna, and the pop-top tent (which I'll tell you about later) that has 525 W solar panels on top. Oh, and four security cameras cover all sides of the vehicle.

Another important upgrade was a set of Vanspeed capsules, also known as flares, which were color-matched to match the rest of the van. They increase the van's width at the back by 11 inches (28 centimeters). Each capsule also has a window with a sliding screen.

Enter, and a beautifully crafted, clean interior will greet you, just like inside all the other Brooklyn Campervans projects. This rig's design consists of burnished lime-wash painted walls and ceiling paired with wood cabinetry with a natural finish.

Another critical detail regarding this van's interior is the fact that it has an open layout. That means no wall separates the driver's cabin from the living space. The builders put the front part of the interior to good use by devising a spacious seating area.

Dead ahead of the entrance, Brooklyn Campervans installed a double bench seat and a table. Moreover, the driver and passenger seats can be turned around to become part of the seating area, as they're mounted on swivel bases.

If you want to accommodate a kid, you can remove the table and fold the bench seat flat into a bed. And I say a kid because the bed is quite short. Above the seat, you'll see two overhead cabinets.

Photo: YouTube Screenshot / Brooklyn Campervans

A pass through above the seating area leads to what Brooklyn Campervans calls the second bedroom. Attach a telescoping ladder and you'll be able to climb inside the van's CloudCap pop-top tent.

This four-season-ready tent has three zippable windows with bug screens and gear mounting connections on the sides. What's more, it ensures comfort via a lightweight, self-inflating mattress. The best thing about it is that it can handle extra weight on top of it when it's lowered, so it can double as a deck. How cool is that?

Next, we have the bathroom on the driver's side of the interior. It boasts a water-saving shower head that uses only one gallon (3.8 liters) per minute and a removable Laveo dry-flush toilet on a wood mat.

Brooklyn Campervans chose an interesting design for the bathroom that I hadn't seen before. You'll notice wood tiles that match the rest of the van's aesthetic, as well as two maple waterproof maple wood walls.

Photo: YouTube Screenshot / Brooklyn Campervans

Cooking for a family takes some space, definitely more than cooking something for yourself. But in this van, the kitchen, which is split into two parts, has plenty of space.

It features a two-burner induction stovetop, a Dometic fridge with a tiny freezer compartment, a deep sink with a cover, and a microwave hidden in an overhead cabinet. Regarding storage, you can use four drawers, a pull-out pantry, and a cabinet underneath the sink.

One of the coolest features Brooklyn Campervans integrates on most of its projects is an electromagnetic locking system. When you start the van, the system locks the drawers and cabinets so they won't fly open while driving, and it unlocks them when you park. Of course, you also get a manual override button in case you want to open it while driving or after you start the engine.

The final part of the living space is the bedroom at the very back. It has a custom mattress arranged from side to side, a 16,000-BTU Nomadic X3 A/C unit, and two overhead cabinets.

Photo: YouTube Screenshot / Brooklyn Campervans

A nice touch is that part of the mattress can be lifted to serve as a backrest, essentially transforming the bed into a couch. There's a project by the driver's cabin that can be pulled down so you can enjoy a lovely movie night.

Any good camper van has a control panel for the utilities. For the first time, Brooklyn Campervans decided on a different, all-in-one solution regarding controls, one that makes things as easy as possible for the customer: an EcoFlow Insight display.

It allows you to control and monitor all the utilities, including lights, power, outlets, water, and more. The only other controller the builders needed to add was a thermostat for a diesel heater that's connected to the vehicle's tank.

The EcoFlow electrical system is housed on the passenger side of the massive garage underneath the bed. Opposite it, you'll discover a 40-gallon (151-liter) freshwater tank and other plumbing components, such as a heater or pump. Moreover, the water you use drains into an under-mounted 10-gallon (48-liter) greywater tank, which has a heating pad you can use in freezing conditions.

Overall, this tiny home on wheels by

Brooklyn Campervans

is packed with amenities. It can sleep five people without making the situation uncomfortable and has everything you need to enjoy comfortable family adventures.

I wish I could tell you the cost for a rig like this one, but its makers didn't share any quotes. I'd estimate the total price of this camper van, including the base vehicle, is somewhere around $250,000 (€222,154) – but that's just my guess.

The Best World War 2 Strategy Games To Play In 2025 – Strategy and Wargaming

With the recent release of Burden of Command I thought to myself: is there a better time to compile a list of some of the Best World War 2 strategy games to play in 2025? I concluded that no, there’s no better time than this.

Are you a History enthusiast with a strategic mind? Do you find yourself captivated by the intricate campaigns and pivotal moments of World War 2? So here goes: You’ve landed in the right place. In 2025, the landscape of strategy gaming continues to offer some of the best experiences that allow you to step into the boots of wartime leaders and soldiers of World War 2. I have put together a list of some of the best World War 2 strategy games you can play in 2025. In this list you’ll find a lot of different experiences so that there’s something for every player out there. Join me as we delve into the top World War 2 strategy games you absolutely need to play in 2025, exploring their unique features, historical accuracy, and the strategic options they offer.

Let’s start with a gem from the early 2000s that I barely see talked about today! The Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology 2 builds upon the foundation of 2003 original, offering a real-time tactics experience set across various theaters of World War 2. Its graphics are pretty dated by today’s standards, but it attempted to bring some historical accuracy and tactical depth to a genre dominated mainly by doomstacks. Blitzkrieg 2 introduced new features like reinforcements and supply management, as well as armour values for tanks and defensive positions, attempting to add more layers for strategic consideration on the battlefield. Players command historically authentic units in loving environments (if you like the early 2000s look of games like Commandos and Age of Empires 2 you’ll love this one). The anthology provides the base game alongside the Blitzkrieg 2: Fall of the Reich and Blitzkrieg 2: Liberation DLCs.

Sudden Strike 4 is what I would call a classic real-time tactics game set in World War 2, more arcadey, and less focused on historical accuracy and realistic battles. Being the 4th game of the series, it’s quite an evolution when compared with SS3, a game released in 2007. While it might not be able to provide you with the more engaging kind and authentic battles, the sheer amount of content and the fact that it goes on sale for so cheap, so often, is worth a go. There are dozens of missions from the early days of the war to the Pacific, the Winter War, Dunquerke, North Africa, France and Russia. The graphics are nice as well. It’s what I would call a chill game for a relaxed Friday night.

Here’s a childhood favourite of mine, and a game I hope Commandos: Origins can learn a couple of things from: Commandos 2, is one of the best tactical stealth-based games ever, and without a doubt, the best one set during World War 2, where players control a squad of elite (and iconic) commandos with unique skills. Focusing on infiltration, sabotage, and covert operations behind enemy lines, Commandos required meticulous planning, patrol and map studying and flawless execution. Each commando’s ability is muscle memory for every single one of us who played it for hours on end. The original Commandos is also a great option if you’re interested in playing the game that started the series.

War Mongrels is rather similar to Commandos, in the sense that it’s another real-time tactics game, but with quite a story behind it. Set on the Eastern Front during World War 2, you’re commanding a squad of deserters who become resistance fighters. With a blend of stealth, tactical combat, and a narrative-driven campaign that doesn’t shy away from the brutality of war, the game challenges players to both outmanoeuvre and overcome German forces, while having to deal with the horrors of the conflict that changed the 20th century. The original mission is quite memorable, and while the game controls could be a bit better, it’s still an experience worth going through.

I know that putting Men of War 2 might not be the most obvious choice, but despite reviewing somewhat poorly (even for Strategy and Wargaming standards), I think its singleplayer missions are worth playing and the game has been getting tons of updates since it first came out, nearly a year ago. It’s still a run-of-the-mill Men of War game, where you command small units of infantry, tanks, and artillery, emphasizing direct control and tactical decision-making. The recent updates have reworked old systems, introduced new game mechanics, brought new units and battalions, new maps, and even improved some graphics and sounds. I think the game is in a good state right now, and might be worth giving it a shot.

I canceled all my Adobe subscriptions: Here's what I'm using instead

XDA
1 Share

I never thought I was going to cancel all my Adobe subscriptions, but subscription fatigue and underwhelming updates helped me finalize the decision to pull the plug. And it turns out I didn't need Adobe software, not when there's a whole world of free and one-time purchase alternatives that are just as capable. Some of the tools aren't only "good enough," they're actually fun to use, too.

After Effects and Photoshop were my primary subscriptions, so here's a breakdown of the apps I replaced them with.

Related

Run your choice of Adobe alternative apps directly from your PC. There are good substitutes for everything.

5 DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve is an absolute beast when it comes to video editing and VFX. There's a reason it's used in professional settings like movie studios. At first glance, the interface can be a bit intimidating if you're coming from After Effects, mainly due to the multiple editing pages. But this is a good thing; you're basically getting multiple editors in one.

The Cut page is perfect for simple edits; I recommend staying on this page when you first start using the software, just to get attuned to the interface. Then move on to the Edit page for more advanced timeline-based editing, and the Color page for professional color grading. These three pages are all you need to create high-quality footage.

What attracted me most to DaVinci Resolve, however, was its Fusion page — it's a hub for all your visual effects and motion graphics, and it's node-based, which makes it more hands-on than After Effects' workflow. I'm also very impressed by the Fairlight page, which is a full-fledged audio editor. The only downside to Resolve is that it's resource-hungry, but so was After Effects, so it's not much of a trade-off.

Related

Resolve just gets more done, and for free

4 Kdenlive

Perfect for keyframe editing

I've been using Kdenlive for some time now for simpler edits that still require keyframing. In many ways, it reminds me of After Effects and is also a powerful alternative to Premiere Pro. The layout, interface, and tools don't require a steep learning curve; if you know the basics of video editing, you can jump right in.

Kdenlive is perfect for green-screen editing and animated transitions, which is why I use it for YouTube and TikTok videos. On top of that, it's free and open-source, so there's no subscription, watermarks, or ecosystem traps. I can also use it on my Chromebook through the Linux environment, which practically makes it a portable editor.

Related

Here's why Kdenlive is my go-to choice for editing video (and audio) on multiple platforms.

3 GIMP

I'm a big fan of GIMP, and it's probably one of your favorites too if you love open-source editors. It's not just a Photoshop alternative; GIMP is a powerful, although slightly quirky, tool in its own right. It's been around forever and still gets active updates (and useful ones, which is more than I can say for Photoshop).

GIMP might not feel very intuitive if you're coming straight from Photoshop, but that's only because it's not developed to be a Photoshop clone. However, I have been using it for the same editing tasks as Photoshop — it handles layering, masking, coloring, patterns, and brushing just as well. And I pretty much live in the GMIC plugin, which can handle anything you throw at it. It's not the fastest app, but that's not a deal-breaker for me.

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)

Related

It's a powerful tool with its own strengths

2 Photopea

A free Photoshop clone

Something that I highly value in an accessible creative toolkit is a browser-based app, which is what Photopea is. And it's not just a Photoshop alternative, it's a Photoshop clone. It was specifically designed to mimic the Photoshop environment and editing experience, and its toolkit reflects that. You can easily import and edit PSD files, work with layers and smart objects, and it even has some vector functionality.

Photopea also surpasses GIMP in some areas, such as better text handling. This is my go-to tool for doing advanced editing quickly; it's absurdly good for being completely online and free.

Related

Photopea might be the better choice if you're after these key features

1 Picsart

Picsart isn't exactly a direct replacement for any of my Adobe subscriptions, unless you count the access I had to Adobe Express via my Photoshop subscription. But it's better than Express and surpasses Canva in many ways. I've been using Picsart for image editing and casual design work for years, both the mobile and browser apps.

It's the most intuitive and creative tool I have in my kit. I can remove a background in one tap, produce a fancy Instagram story from its endless template selection, and apply some of the strangest filters that other editors lack. It also transforms into a drawing tool with a host of brush options.

Admittedly, I do pay for the subscription because I got curious about what was hiding behind the paywall; however, even as a free user, I used to get more than enough functionality out of Picsart.

Related

Why settle for less when Picsart offers more?

Was leaving Adobe worth it?

Cutting Adobe loose felt risky at first, but it turned out to be liberating, especially since I already had a fantastic toolkit to fall back on. I'm not saying these apps are 1:1 replacements — if you're coming from Adobe like me, there will be an adjustment period. But these tools are seriously worth exploring,

I've saved money, reduced bloat on my system, and discovered new ways to create in the absence of tools that were unique to Adobe. GIMP and Photopea are all you need for creating professional images. Add Picsart to that, and you have a full graphic design kit. DaVinci Resolve is a 5-in-1 tool, and it's nice to have Kdenlive as an easier alternative.

If you've been thinking about ditching the Creative Cloud suite, I can confirm that life after Adobe is doable, if not better.
